Peanut’s Pillow
“When you miss me, have no fear,
hug this pillow, and know I’m here.”
We received this unbelievably kind, thoughtful, and comforting gift today from Blipper Tookie. The words come hard, but the tears didn’t. This is so special and heartwarming. She pulled this image from one of my many blips of her. Will those of you who follow her stop by her journal and thank her for this? She said in her enclosed card that Peanut, like her beloved dog Cowboy, were far more than pets. They were family members with special connections, connections beyond the physical interaction.
We have placed the pillow in her rocking chair, one of her favorite places to rest and hang with us. I have so many beautiful pictures of her, and this is one of my favorites. She had the most beautiful eyes, and from my chair across the room, she is looking right into mine.
This has been a most difficult summer. Over my 72 years, I have experienced several pet losses, but few, if any, have been as hard as this. She was such a lively free spirit, a spirit to which I can relate, and I think that’s why we were so close. My outside, gardening buddy. I still look for her, and expect to see her, everywhere.
I am working on a photo and text book of her all too short life. Right now it’s around 130 pages, with close to 300 photos. It should be therapeutic, and I am glad I am doing it, but it’s still so damn sad and hard.
This is but one more instance of the caring and love shared in the Blip community. This place has helped us heal this summer. Thanks, and love to you all.
