Kipper Cabin

French Beach rocks.

As in, rocks from French Beach. Not "FRENCH BEACH ROCKS!! AWWW-RIGHHHHT!!"

Although, I must say, French Beach does indeed rock.

French Beach is on the Strait of Juan de Fuca (The Salish Sea), and there's a most fabulous campground attached. It's actually one of those to die for BC Provincial Parks. You know what you're getting when you book a spot at a BC Provincial Park campground. You get a very private camp site cut out of majestic pines, the ground is always level, there's an indestructible picnic table and a fire pit (camping without a fire is ... inconceivable). And, just when you're thinking you might be needing a bit more firewood to see you through til bedtime, the Warden happens to stop by with a wagon load! Five stars!

The road to French Beach is windy ... all higgledy piggledy around hills and bedrock, but ninety minutes from Kipper Cabin and you're there. Fred and I have been there often ... really very often. And every time we're there we pinch a rock or two off the beach. I know we're really not s'posed to pinch rocks off provincial parks, but if you saw French Beach!! Absolutely covered in rocks! Far too many rocks. Folks are slipping and sliding along the beach! Breaking their ankles! I call it "maintenance".

They're gorgeous rocks, all round and smooth due to serious beatings from winter waves over the past ... god knows how many years. Since 1990, for sure! They come in a variety of sizes and some of them are striped.

And there's a rather large wolf living in the vicinity of the campground. If you leave your unwashed bacon pan out he'll clean it for you during the night. Bonus star!
