Lycaena phlaeas II
Mrs Catspaw and I took a bus to Lewes today, then took a walk out of town up on the Sussex Wildlife Trust's Malling Down and Southerham Farm nature reserves, where we saw a plethora of butterfly species taking advantage of the warm, sunny weather (and the relative lack of wind, particularly on Malling Down.) These included three Clouded Yellows (Colias croceus) - a species which neither Mrs Catspaw nor I had ever seen before - on the Southerham Farm reserve, but these were too active to photograph, so once again it is a Small Copper (Lycaena phlaeas) - seen on our way up The Coombe on Malling Down - that forms the subject of today's Blip.
