Still For A Change
A female ruby-throated hummingbird at rest, which is an unusual sight, as they are more commonly buzzing around the place, pollinating something.
I have seen one on a branch before now, but maybe their scarcity at rest is because I am normally alerted to their presence by the rapid flapping of their wings, which of course they don't do when stationery.
In fact, since an early sighting in spring, I have not encountered any, at least that I could photograph.
I decided to present this image as a close up to show off her markings, which is still remarkable as it's nearly at 100%. I think this most be a young female because the iridescent feathers don't appear to extend to her back.
