The Aegean and Bodrum

With our short visit to Erin in Datça at an end, today was all about the journey back to Akbuk.  After driving here n Sunday using the stunning but arduous mountain road, Robin and I had already decided we would take a different route home via the Datça-Bodrum ferry and the fast (but longer) road to Didim that runs along the shore of Lake Bafa. What a wonderful journey!  Just 15 mins drive to the ferry port and then a leisurely two hours across the breathtakingly beautiful blue Aegean to Bodrum, with just enough breeze for playful spray to shower me in salty water - oh it was bliss.  It was also much better for Rufus to sit on the open lower deck for two hours than in the hot car. Robin, being a sun worshipper, sat on the upper deck the entire time, enhancing her already nut brown tan.

The drive from Bodrum was easy, familiar, mostly flat and took just over an hour.  By now it was 16.00 and we were hungry so we went straight to Hina restaurant on the beach front in Fevzi Pasa - one of my favourite places to eat - for a good and inexpensive meal, so that it was around 18.00 ish when we finally got home.

A thoroughly enjoyable, all too brief, excursion to see Erin in Datca, but I hope not our last.  A road trip that was a visual smorgasbord of stunning scenic views in this beautiful country - on excellent roads I might add. On Sunday the mountain road was glorious, (even if our little hire car couldn't really cope with the hills!) and it was interesting to see the towns of Muğla and Marmaris on the way; and then crossing the Aegean bay to Bodrum today, well, the collage says it all.
