Pushing ourselves
Another unusual day in a life that is as much on rails, it seems, as it ever was when teaching and ruled by bells. Himself went out halfway through his breakfast (ie he finished it when he returned) to try again to meet The Man about The Driveway to the church - he wasn't alone, but two heads are better and all that. I finished my brekkie and then went to another Pilates class in place of the one I missed on Monday - I really felt the need of it. It was quite different from my class in that we used the squishy foam balls in nearly every exercise - some of them I found pretty challenging, but I was glad I'd gone by the time we finished. Home for coffee and Italian - nothing new there.
Because of the concert on Sunday we never bought a Sunday paper. I usually dip into all the sections while I eat my lunch all through the week - apart from anything else, it's easier to balance on my knee while I eat. (We're very sloppy at lunchtime and don't bother with the table). Today, however, I was reading a new book which my daughter-in-law gave me, and I'm enjoying it so much I nearly did what I haven't for years - forgo everything else just to keep reading. I'll tell you about it when I'm finished it.
However, I pulled myself together and tried to obey Fr Kenny - I went down to the surgery to see what the chances were of seeing someone about my eye, and also visited the chemist because one of the pharmacists is qualified to prescribe. No luck there either, but I will go back tomorrow - really ... And then I went on to call on my friend Paddy to catch up; we've not had much chance for weeks. I felt much cheerier after coffee and wide-ranging blethers, to say nothing of the brisk walk there and back. Paddy and Hoy the collie were with me as I walked home, as they were going to the church, and the left hand of the collage is one of only two photos I took today: Hoy, displaying total nonchalance as he walks ahead of us, totally obedient to Paddy's (very accomplished) whistle. You can see how deserted Argyle Street is; it wasn't much better at 10am. It's a tad bleak.
My other photo is of the latest bunch of sweet peas, which seem to smell better than the earlier ones, though that may just be a sign that I'm recovering from the virus! I'm discombobulated to hear tonight that further gusty winds are forecast; I'd like a bit more proper summer weather, please.
And now I'm off to read my book in bed ...
