Concert for George

My cultural calendar continued today by attending the George Harrison tribute concert at St. George's Hall. It was a strange assortment of performances by international artistes, which included a ukelele rendition of a George Formby medley said to be much loved by GH, a concert pianist playing Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue (because of his links with the blues), and an excessively over-amplified rock version of some of his Beatles stuff which didn't work at all well in the aesthetically glorious but acoustically appalling concert room. Despite these shortcomings I couldn't help shedding more than a tear when this was played, and the sitar piece specially composed for this concert and performed by GAURAV MAZUMDAR (pictured) was an absolute delight. I also enjoyed the antics of the arts photographer who was constantly on the move around the stage, auditorium and balconies taking multiple shots with his 2 huge cameras. I'll bet he got some great shots though.
