Barrelers

By the time I'd dismantled the rest of my grown-up children's cabin/loft beds and had the guy round who'd answered our Freecycle post yesterday and then carried a load of stuff downstairs and loaded up his car and then done more lugging of a ton of all this wood downstairs with him whilst he waited for the van to turn up to collect the bigger stuff (a van that was coming - with a man - from, erm, Newcastle, and was only three hours late by his estimation...zzz) I was absolutely creased and it was nearly 5pm as well. Did this fella not know that I was itching to go out and do cultural stuff? But the priority today was always going to be The Beds and now we have a large and empty bedroom to paint and decorate and generally make nice for us to move into. A project for September I reckon.

My partner had been out all afternoon seeing free BBC stuff at the Conference Centre so I met her somewhere nearby for a restorative pint and then we headed over to South Bridge to see if we could see some pay-what-you-want stuff at any of the Monkey Barrel venues.

First up was Krystal Evans who I'd seen a couple of years ago with her show 'Hottest Girl At Burn Camp'. I like her - she's very laid back, an easy style which offsets some of the darker material.

And afterwards it was round the corner to another of their venues at The Hive to catch Jonny Pelham who we'd never heard of but someone who proved to be a pretty great choice. Some incredibly dark confessional stuff in his act, well worth some of my hard-earned.

We arrived home to find one of our Glasgow-dwelling daughters had come home for the night and, quite the result, had dusted and hoovered in her old now loft bed-free bedroom so she could sleep there on a mattress in clean surroundings. Saved us a job - bravo!
