Plough pond

Plough Green is at the foot of my Mum's road, and, some rapid research tells me, is owned by the Warden and Scholars of Merton College, University of Oxford.

At the western edge of the green is what is described in the 'Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Green Spaces Strategy (2008 - 2018)' as an "informal pond ", the last of three ponds that were once situated along Church Road.

When I was living there in the early eighties - on Church Road, not in the pond - there was a popular rumour - at least amongst the boys at my school who hailed from this neck of the woods - that there was a Mini at the bottom of it.

Over the years, the pond has had its ups and downs, although, unfortunately, trending towards a neglected and desultory appearance.

That is until a year or so ago. Possibly via a very active and determined local councillor, whom my Mum holds in high regard, renovations have taken place, including a little observation deck.

As you can see, water levels are low but according to my only source on the matter - my Mum, again - the pond mustn't be refilled except by natural means, which seems to be limited to rain.

Also, definitely not enough space for a Mini.
