Switchback

I'm exhausted. We left the house around 2 a.m. to catch our 6 a.m. flight out of Baltimore. We rushed through Detroit's airport because our first flight was delayed and our connection was tight.

We landed in San Antonio, got our rental car and drove to ZDT's Amusement Park, about 40 minutes away. The small park has this single roller coaster, Switchback, the only wooden shuttle coaster in the world. See the end of the track there? That's what makes it a shuttle coaster. It goes forward and backward through the layout. It has a switch track at the bottom of the first drop that brings it back to the station.

ZDT's is closing forever on the 17th, and the fate of Switchback is unknown. It's for sale, but there is no buyer yet, so the coaster could go away forever. That's why we decided to make this quick trip to ride it.

We also met a college friend of mine, Tim, and got a couple of rides with him. It was nice seeing him again and nice for Jill to finally meet him.

I got four or five rides on Switchback. It's a little rough but not distracting. It's a fun coaster, and I hope it gets sold because it deserves a longer life.
