Marching orders
It was calm overnight, and it's been a cloudy/smoky day. There's been enough progress in firefighting that the pompiers who've been put up in our village hall were ordered back to base in Charente Maritime this afternoon. The social club had geared up to do a meal for them this evening, but nothing is wasted because they took it to the pompiers in Fabrezan instead.
It should have been our village's annual fête du terroir this evening, but it was cancelled as soon as the extent of the fire became clear. The mairie refunded payments for the meal this morning, and mine went into the collection box for victims of the fire. Most other outdoor events have been cancelled too.
We still haven't left the village since Wednesday morning so I haven't seen any of the devastation in real life, but I think most roads will be open again by tomorrow morning. Blipper suzb2 posted a link on my blip yesterday to before/after satellite imagery. It's devastating. These are all villages I know well, and have featured in my blips.
