Ashgill Force

Today's the day . . . . . . . . for a waterfall

While Will went off to find a good place to do a watercolour - Bob, Helen and I scrambled down the steep-sided valley to have a look at the Ashgill Force waterfall.

The stream, Ashill Beck, has cut its way through the Carboniferous Limestone series to form a steep gorge with a series of attractive cascades.  Ashgill Force is the most impressive fall of some 55ft with a rocky shelf behind it.  It  is possible with care to venture there (see extra).

I was happy to stay this side . . . . . . . !
