Amazing Last day!
One of the two non-negotiables for me on this trip was to go rockhounding on nearby Screel Hill, which is one of the rare locations in Scotland that Amethyst can be found. (The other was the Gem Rock Museum which I ticked off on Day 1).
I'd found some coordinates on the Mindat website and plotted them on to the OS map and into what3words and then headed off into the hills with more hope than expectation.
Those of you who follow the PA socials will likely have seen the result. Not only did I actually find amethyst but I found a decent chunk of the much rarer crystal-formed gem (along with some much smaller/less impressive druzy pieces).
Once I cleaned it up a bit, it was even more stunning, an amazing find that I will treasure. Day/holiday made :)
