At the Taylor Dam…..

……. Today, almost midday. The shadows stretching across the streams were dark and sharp. However this view shows where the lake is able to drain its waters, after flooding, back into the Taylor River. From there the river flows to the Dam outlet under the earth structure. The system works well. In past years a metal collar was placed around the actual Dam outlet to throttle back the flood flow. This prevented too much floodwater flowing down the river and eventually through Blenheim with the consequence risk to urban stopbanks.
