There Must Be Magic

Doe and Three Fawns at Dusk

It was a good day that featured a lovely brunch with dear old friends, including two from WAY out of town, as well as a chance to explore a pollinator garden at a brand new park in town. We stopped by Penn State's Berkey Creamery after that to pick up a box of August Pie ice cream, my favorite flavor! Then we ran by Way Fruit Farm to get more peaches. So now I'm set!

It was heading toward dusk and my husband had been out riding his bike one more lap around the neighborhood before calling it quits for the day. He came back in, excited, telling me all about the doe and three fawns he'd seen in a neighbor's yard. Did I want to go and see?

So I grabbed my camera, put it in my daysack, hopped on my bike, and in a few minutes, I was on the scene with the deer. There was a tree that fell back in springtime the same time that our own tree fell. It was cleared out much later than ours and I suspect the local animals began to see it as habitat.

The doe and three fawns (!!!THREE!!!) were just hanging out in the spot of the cleared tree, grazing very contentedly, almost as though they were sheep or something. A truck went by and they moved back up the yard a bit but otherwise, they were unperturbed. Here is just one of the many photos I took of the little family group.

As far as my soundtrack song goes, I just wanted something gentle and sweet, and so here is a thing I have found and fallen in love with: Olivia Newton-John and Elton John, with Candle in the Wind. Oh, how we adored sweet Olivia; as a little child I thought she was just a pure angel, with that beautiful face and that heavenly voice. Watch the video; I think Elton thinks so too.
