Looking down the Glacier de Piece …

At sunset. I had walked up there with Steve, the guide, and his client, David, from Arolla (2000m) to the Vignettes Hut (3153m). Waking on a glacier involves ice axes, crampons and ropes (extra) as I’m sure you will know but it’s so long since I had done anything like this, I felt like a beginner again! We were lucky to get above the heatwave that we are experiencing in Switzerland at the moment into a hut that was cool and with very few people there. However I did not sleep as usual at high altitude, knowing we had to get up at 4am. I didn’t have the energy to stay up for the full moon but saw it at almost 2am, the glaciers were almost translucent in moonlight (extra). The moon looks like the sun, it was so bright.
