The Vexed Question Of Hand Luggage

Some people haven't really grasped the idea of "hand luggage".

Something brought home to me yesterday on the flight from London.  My hand luggage consists of my laptop, hankies and a book to read.  There's not a lot else needed for a flight of 90 minutes.

Or so you'd think.

There's been a growing trend of hand luggage creep where people try to pack everything they own into it.  This was very evident on the flight yesterday.  One person brought on one of those suitcases that are most definitely not hand luggage.  They wanted to store it in the overhead locker but it was too big.  A flight attendant said "That's way too big to be considered hand luggage" (it was about as big as our checked in suitcase).  They were asked what was in the wardrobe that they really needed. Answer - a charging cable.  Given that there is no place to use a charging cable on a plane, you start to wonder if this person needs help getting dressed.

These things bug me a lot.

My rucksack gets stowed under the seat in front.  It bothers no-one.

It's just the basic lack of consideration for others that annoys me most.  German style tutting may have been used.
