Maryport
A damp morning cleared up to a bright and breezy afternoon so we cleared off to Maryport for their version of “Taste of Cumbria” which was branded as “Taste of the Sea”
We were very impressed by the main arena which was packed with people and plenty of food stalls and crafty bits and pieces. We tried lots of things, including Thornback ray and Dover Sole, local salami, many different variations of chutneys and jams. Stall holders were all very chatty.
It was a most enjoyable afternoon with live music for entertainment as well as the ever popular charity beer tent which I refrained from entering. Thought I might spot a Blipper or two; not to be this time. I know some of you were there! I couldn’t get an angle on a shot in the main area so you’ll have to make do with this one of the “sands” at Maryport.
After meandering around the festival grounds, the marina and harbour we wandered up into the town. While the seafront area has undergone a transformation the town still needs some TLC although it is well provided with information boards.
A brisk walk along the route south of the harbour rounded off the visit.
Thank you so much for your concern about the glucose monitor. I had two parents who were type 2 and a brother with type 1 so given that and my age I’m high risk. I’m doing everything I can with diet and exercise to manage my risk but given my genetic background it may be inevitable.
The monitor enables me to keep checking which foods have the most impact on my blood sugars as there’s always something to learn about the impact of foods or combinations of foods.
