Pentland Geology
I went for a run in the Pentlands and did two earth geocaches that I hand't ticked off before.
This valley first of all was the location of the sea bed 400 million years ago. Then tectonic plates caused sandstone to be pushed upwards. Then the lava from volcanoes poured down slopes forming domes. Lastly glaciers in the ice age shaped and smoothed the hills and deepened valleys such as this one.
