Crumble!
We drove up to Kirkby Lonsdale, yesterday afternoon, and after a final check of email etc, we set about mowing the lawns, which have had about seven weeks' of unfettered growth.
While we doing that, we noticed there were blackberries growing along some of the borders. There weren't that many, but enough to make me wonder if I might make a crumble using them in conjunction with the apples on the tree, which are looking wonderful, this year.
We spent most of today clearing out Dan's room, as we're going to change things around upstairs. The first step is to clear that room out, re-decorate it, and then relocate the music room into there.
Amongst other things, this involved dismantling his bed and taking that and the mattress to the tip. Actually, we made two trip runs, one of which was enhanced by coffee and cakes from Farletonview Tearoom.
We called it a day around three o'clock, when I did some yoga and weights, had a shower, and then set about making the crumble.
I followed Mary Berry's recipe, which was straightforward and contained no hidden pitfalls. I did opt for the rolled oats, but rather than using a mixture of apples, as suggested, I simply used four large ones from the garden.
I cooked it while we were eating the tremendous pumpkin risotto that the Minx made for dinner, and then we set about the crumble, served with. some crème fraîche.
I'm pleased to say that it was absolutely delicious.
