Cocora Valley

This morning we set out on a full day tour of the coffee region without going to a coffee farm which we've done in other Latin American countries. First stop is Cocora Valley and a walk up to view the Quindio wax palms the region is a famous for. These magnificent trees stand up to 60 metres tall and are quite a spectacle which can only be seen in Colombia. We also saw a variety of small and micro orchids but unfortunately the Andean condor didn't put in an appearance.

After the walk we stopped in Salento for a rather magnificent coffee (I hope it tastes as good back home). The town is very tourist oriented and seems to have lost it's authenticity. Still, it was pleasant. Our next stop is Filandia which, although touristy, retains a bit of character. That character included a couple with dogs in dresses and a pet pig on a lead. Each to their own.
