Mystery squash
Did our usual Sunday morning run. I felt quite bouncy and we did a different route with a lap round a local park before picking up the canal and river. Over 9k but not as far as 10, which was fine.
Had breakfast in the garden and then walked to the local shops to recycle some glass and pick up fresh basil and mushrooms for butternut squash risotto preparation later. S realised he had an ocular migraine starting so we stopped for a drink at a cafe. We never do this so close to home but it was good coffee and a great people watching spot in the shade.
Made the risotto after lunch and then carried on reading in the garden while the men watched the football. I just can't put the book down.
Headed out at dusk to meet up with a bat group member to see if we could work out if my washed bat detector was working properly. The bad news is that it definitely isn't. However we had a great wildlife walk in a nearby wood with foxes, owls, buzzard, fallow deer, rabbits, a toad and 4 species of bat.
This huge flower is from the squash plant that has appeared in one of the flower tubs. We used our own compost so I wonder if it came from a previous butternut squash recipe. Not sure if we'll get any fruit from the plant but it has been fun to see it grow.
