Forecast is for heat & intermittent dizzy spells
Maybe the heat is getting to me after all – it was a very, very hot weekend and we were all outside a hell of a lot. Whatever the reasons, I woke up, having slept reasonably well, feeling dizzy and a little disorientated (or, as they insist on saying over here, “disoriented”). Indeed, the room was spinning a little, so I put my head back on the pillow and tried to focus on something. The inside of my eyelids seemed the best bet, so I did, and fell asleep again. When I woke up, around 9, the spinning had stopped, but the light-headedness was still there. I resolved to do nothing more strenuous all day than dozing.
Mrs. Ottawacker had taken a day off work to recover from her week off work (and trip to Montreal) and so she decided she wanted to take Ottawacker Jr. out on a bus ride. He has another game this evening, against the second OSU team in the league, and having decided he isn’t playing in goal but as central defender, he wanted to check out where the pitch was. It is the far side of Ottawa, still technically in Nepean, but out by Minto Sports Complex. While they did that, I made a list of all the things I was not going to do today, and then did them. Maybe that is the solution? I mean, I had to get a gift and birthday card for my sister – and, as I had left it so late, it had to be Moonpig and had to be today, so I did it. After that, the chores I wasn’t going to do got done. Screen time was the one thing I wasn’t going to do, so it makes some sort of ridiculous logic that it was all I did. I am a moron. Having said that, the light-headedness didn’t get any worse.
Our next-door neighbour’s son called round around 2 to see if he wanted to go on a bike ride. It is currently 34°C/94°F – he has a game tonight, and he spent the whole weekend in hotter conditions outside. Like me, he manages to make the wrong choices – but we let him do it all the same. Why not? You’re only young and reckless once. After that, you become like me.
I edited the photos from the weekend, and sat down with Mrs. Ottawacker to look at the excellent albums that Bob Books had produced. The quality is definitely on the up, too – the three of them were fantastic.
Around 4, I decided I wasn’t up to going to Ottawacker Jr.’s football this evening, still a bit dizzy, so I deferred to Mrs. Ottawacker. I caught up on my blips, planned my next day, and waited for the reports from the game. Ottawacker Jr. was not playing in goal, so my hopes were not great for an OISC win – especially after the energy they expended at the Longueil tournament. But what do I know? They were playing away at the second OSU team – OSU Blue – who were third in the table, just behind us. Despite the heat – many games were cancelled as it was still in the low 30s – the game went ahead and the Internationals won 7-5, despite having a man sent off and playing with a call-up keeper. Mrs. Ottawacker was raving about how hard Ottawacker Jr. was trying – he was playing in an advanced midfield position – and while I generally take comments like “ooh, he was trying so hard” to mean “he was crap”, it apparently wasn’t the case. Besides, he’s my son, he’s brilliant.
While they were out, I watched a Digging for Britain, and dozed in the chair. That’s how they found me on their return.
