Kilchenzie
This morning we visited Kilchenzie burial ground, which is just outside of Campbeltown. My mum's ancestors come from the area around Campbeltown and we went to look at a gravestone on which a number of ancestors are named. My mum had been in touch with someone in the council and it was specially opened for us as it's usually locked and closed. Unfortunately the stone had fallen face down, but it was good to see where it is and where a number of our ancestors are buried. The burial ground is also the site of a medieval chapel, dating to the 12th century or so, so it was an interesting visit altogether.
The afternoon involved visiting a distant relative of my mum's who lives in Campbeltown and then a stroll around the area. For added interest, we've had the visitor in the extra at the kitchen window of the flat we're staying in both yesterday evening and this evening (we're on the second floor) ....
