Pitsligo Castle, originating from a 15th century tower house, extended in the 16th and 17th centuries, unroofed and ransacked after the 1745 Jacobite campaign, used as a byre, eroded by 6 centuries of Buchan winters and now as the extra shows defaced by mindless graffiti.
