The Hundred
For the last few years, m’boy, m’dad and I have made an annual pilgrimage to Old Trafford Cricket Ground to watch The Hundred.
We’ve been there in driving rain and burning hot sunshine. Today was nothing short of perfect, as it was a very hot day, but we were shielded from the worst of it, by a liberal spreading of cloud cover.
Armed with a bag of snacks and drinks, we settled in…
The cricket itself was exceptional with the women’s match going down to the wire and our adopted team; Manchester Originals, only losing out in the final couple of balls.
There’s a lot of noise and party-type atmosphere at these things, which is great fun, but unfortunately the musical act was not. The funniest part of the afternoon was when an announcement went over the speakers that he would be back later on was met with a collective groan from around the ground.
Not sure cricket is ready for rap yet.
Then the boundaries were pushed back and out came the men and promptly started slamming the ball all over the place. It was another tight game, but this time under the floodlights of Old Trafford, the Originals (aka. OGs) ran out winners against the London Spirit.
Absolutely fantastic day.
