My beautiful silver birch

When we moved into this house 38 years ago, this tree was small enough for my daughter to climb. Over the years, it had become very heavy and when it was windy, it was dropping small branches. This morning, Gavin the tree man came and gave it a thorough hair cut. He is an arborist, who really cares for the trees he cuts.
He has taken ten feet from each side and from the top, and thinning the crossed branches as he went. I am so thrilled with the result. He has managed to keep the shape whilst making it look less heavy. It will do for another twenty years.
