Between fen and mountains

Arboretum

The village arboretum was looking good in the sunshine. There is running water and deep shade so it is a good place to spend some time during this heatwave. I went down to the chemist to buy some arnica oil which had been recommended by the physiotherapist to apply to muscle aches and pains. I will give it a try. I also went round to my neighbours’ house, not the one that was flooded, but our neighbours opposite us on the street. They have been broken into and I agreed to do a video call to determine if there was anything stolen. The neighbour behind them was also broken into a fortnight ago. There was not much disturbance in the house. A computer had been taken from a drawer but there were lots of other things that could have been stolen. Their conversation with the neighbour who was broken into a couple of weeks ago seems to indicate that these people are occasional squatters. A third neighbour had two people come through an unlocked door on their top floor at night only to be surprised and then they ran off. The police are involved but don’t seem particularly concerned. There is no police presence during the night and I suppose they feel there is not much they can do. My neighbour says this is the first problem they have had for 37 years. It seems the village is attracting a few undesirables.
