What now? Thomas is air-lifted

What next? We thought the heat was our only problem but it got worse.

The daughters had booked the children into slots this morning to make a wax hand each. Luke and #2 daughter walked down with them. Then Phil got a phone call to say Thomas had fainted and banged his head. The firstaider called the ambulance. The medic on it said an hour’s drive to the hospital wasn’t safe so he got an air ambulance. Before we knew it he and his mum were whisked off to Saarbrucken in a helicopter. They want to keep him under observation for 24 hours. The hospital has no aircon so it is 34 in their room.

They were due to drive to Amsterdam tomorrow for the overnight ferry to North Shields. Phil had to sort out an alternative ferry but they had no space for the following night. He was able to get booked on the Monday night ferry. CenterParcs can’t let them stay in their present house but can accommodate them in another. This means Phil having to pack up to move out tomorrow by 10 and not get into the next place till 4. He also needs to pick up Thomas and daughter. They also have to sort out the €3000 bill the hospital has asked to be paid up front. What a pest Bregshit is. They have a GHIC but that’s no use for this. They have to claim it back on the insurance. In addition they need to arrange extra time off work, and make arrangements for Sandy the dog. Daughter’s German vocabulary skills are being put to the test what with their dealings with the garage to get the car fixed and now medical issues. They’ve not had a lucky week.

We think Thomas will be ok - he was groggy but he’s been asking Phil to take in his book. James doesn’t adapt well to change so it’s been a tricky day. #3 daughter has been a star organising stuff. They are only needing to drive to Lille so can stay to help Phil pack whereas we have a ferry to catch. #2 daughter and I took the boys to the lake to cool off and Mr C and Phil joined us at a cafe where we got food for tea. At 7pm #3 daughter and Phil went off to take supplies to the hospital and give #2 a bit of moral support. We are in charge of the others while Luke gets their packing done. We are letting them watch crap TV.

The wax hands look good and are in the fridge in case you were wondering!
