A Rare Discovery

Now that most of the crops have been harvested, the fields can be entered, but watch where you tread.  If you are lucky, and observant, you may encounter one of these structures hidden amongst the stubble.

It is a lark's launch ramp.  The skylarks use them to rise speedily into the sky in much the same way that jets are launched from an aircraft carrier.  As they ascend, they drop a tinkling cascade of notes behind them like a vapour trail.  Some hang in the air, some are blown away on the wind and some fall gently to earth where you may be fortunate enough to catch one or two.

Those aural gems are evanescent.  As they rapidly fade away, so does the memory of their beauty, but there was one expert adept at preserving them for others to hear and enjoy later.  His name was Ralph Vaughan Williams.

The structure in this blip is formed from many hundreds of fine lines, which is fortunate as the theme for Ingeborg's Abstract Thursday challenge, AT529, is 'Lines'.

Hopefully, you weren't taken in by all that guff.
The reality is that I have simply re-worked yesterday's blip of the downy feather.
