Journey's Prep...

'Our' Ruby-throated Hummers are preparing for their Fall Migration. Although some remain in South Florida or southern Texas, most will spend the winter in Mexico and Central America. Males typically begin their southern journeys before the females. They are always the first to arrive in early Spring and the first to leave in the Fall. Right now though, they're busy chasing each other around the yard while consuming as much nectar as possible. Mother is cooperating...along with the Pagoda Plants, BottleBrush trees are blooming as are the Tropical Sage and Firebush (Hamelia patens). These plants are a few of the Hummingbirds' favorites. The 'spots' on this hummer's head are grains of pollen. Our hummingbird feeder will remain up until at least two weeks after we see our last hummer.
