Diary of an Edinburgher

Bergen

The coughing has got worse. It's now a 'sea lion bark'. Interspersed with vigorous sneezes, often three at a time. And it went on most of the night. Poor JR didn't get much sleep. And neither did the two German women next door, but as they've been on loud phone conversations (and the German language is not at all lyrical) every evening till late, I did not feel that I should apologise to them this morning when they met us at breakfast and asked, quite concerned, which of us was coughing...

Our last morning on the ship. We had lunch in the posher restaurant, and our favourite waiter actually got us some fresh orange juice, which is allowed at breakfast time, otherwise you have to pay for it. We expressed disbelief when he told us that days ago, and he agrees, but as it was our last day, and his, it appeared. Lucky us!

Another minor cafuffle with the taxi firm. Not happy with the travel agent. We got into what we thought was the correct taxi, having waited for ages, and when we arrived at the hotel he wanted us to pay. We told him it was pre-paid. Not to his firm, apparently. He got quite aggressive and drove off, about to return us to the wharf. We paid. No worries - Nobody died! But not very efficient on the part of the travel agent.

A sunny day in Bergen, so we checked in to the hotel and then headed up the furnicular. It had to be done. But I wasn't feeling in top form - eyes watering, nose running, bouts of coughing - I had hoped it would deter people from crowding me, but it didn't. We took the obligatory wind-swept selfie, and came back down, for I needed to get horizontal as fast as possible.

Happy now. Comfy room. Cup of tea. Cheese sandwich from breakfast. NO AIR CON!! SKY News for a change.

Big meeting with Trump and Putin! Fingers crossed.

PS Our hotel is the big red one on the wharf. And the very flash Scenic Eclipse is opposite. Those passengers are here tonight too, but not in the small  back rooms, I suspect….

Goodbye Vicki - you’ve been great!! He’s off tomorrow morning stay with Elizabeth tonight, as Vicki leaves very early in the morning. And, er, we’re not home yet. Somebody made a boo-boo with the dates…. It might have been ME…
