Bags and Beans

A slightly more pleasant day, plenty of sunshine but with a very welcome cool breeze.

Whilst Mr HB went off to a model flying jamboree at his local flying club I hived off to one of our town's very nice cafés, Jones's, to meet up with two old former workmates. We meet up a couple of times a year and Jones's is always our chosen venue, owned by a lovely local hardworking and creative family. They also have a successful vineyard and market garden:

Colehurst Vineyard

Planting at Colehurst Vineyard began in 2007. Originally purchased as land to produce market garden fruit and vegetables for the coffee shops. Half of the site is a south facing slope with free draining sand and gravel soils and so we decided to gamble on growing vines. We have planted 12 grape varieties, 6 Red and 6 White. The 4500 vines planted cover one and a half hectares and we harvested and vinified our first vintage in 2009.

It was a long lunch! Lots to talk about and catchup on. I had a good look at all the artwork on display, some of which was done by a friend and admired the lovely bags made by one of the Café owner's daughters.

I left with a bag of freshly picked runner beans and a couple of bottles of bin ends of the red variety, a couple of glasses of which Mr HB and I will probably sample later with our dinner.
