Charging up

I ma now on my second electric car - the VW in the forefront which I got in March.   I chose it because of its long range and it actually  does do almost 400 miles on a full charge.  In fact in the current warm weather it can slightly exceed that total.

I admit that I did really like driving my Tesla but I also had too many problems with it.   Fortunately I managed to trade it in at a reasonable value - just before the anti -Musk effect hit the price.

I regularly see commentary about electric vehicles expressing fears about range and availability of charging points.    I felt that way myself before I  bought the Tesla, but in reality range is increasing all the time (I noticed this week that there is a new variant of the Tesla Model 3 about to go on sale which claim to do  500 miles) and so are the number of places to charge.   Moreover as  the range of models increases prices are also coming down.

On the rather unusual journey I have had this week I charged at home, then at the Land Commission offices in Inverness (which are primarily HIE offices and which have Pod Points) whilst I was there for four hours, then topped up at a very fast charger the next day (which is the blip)  and  once at home  that night before doing so again in Ayr (again at a very fast charger) on my way to New Galloway (which is tomorrows' story).    Overall cost was probably a third of what my petrol would have been.

In  fact I didn't actually need to charge in Inverness or in Ayr - over the four days  I could have easily managed on a single charge from home to Inverness, then from Inverness back to  home via Granton on Spey, and then at home for a round trip to New Galloway.

The VW is also a joy to drive - so far anyway.
