FINDING GOD'S VISION
You probably know by now that I wander around before the church service starts and take lots of different photographs - and you will see a real medley today!
The guitars were on the tee shirt of a family who used to come to Gorse Hill, but who now live in South Africa - and chatting with Andrew, I asked if I could take a photograph of the guitars on his tee shirt - and he was happy for me to do that. Then the tiny guitar to the right of that is a “Liverpool” guitar, bought for Mark, our Worship Leader, by Meg, an avid supporter of Liverpool, who saw this and bought it for Mark - I took the shot next to his big guitar.
The “claws” are what one of our youngsters wore to Church - and when I chatted with her, she said she was learning to do origami - and these were very cleverly done.
The two crosses were worn and bought in North Wales by two more of our youngsters whilst they were on holiday last week. The sandals and lovely dresses were worn by two more of our youngsters - and I think they are all used to me now asking them to pose! They probably think “Oh no! Maureen’s at it again!” Actually, going round taking these photographs gives me an opportunity to speak to our youngsters, which is great.
In a couple of weeks time, our new Minister, Mick, will be coming to join us, but over the last three years, we have been blessed to have lots of different people preaching on a Sunday morning.
On this the penultimate Sunday before Mick arrives, we were privileged to have Peter, who hopefully, will soon be a member of our Church, preaching and it was great! He spoke about us finding God’s vision for us within His Church and some of the other shots were from slides he had prepared for his sermon.
Three points from his sermon were:
Be His
Be Here and
Be Involved
Peter reminded us that it is about the Church - God’s people - coming together and doing what God wants them to do - and many of you know that we already do that with our Community Fridge and also when we deliver the Bags of Hope.
We were asked “Where do you find the “smile of God” in your life?” For me, it is chatting to people. I know I talk a lot - and I have learned to accept that it is a gift that God has given me - but it is so good to be able to chat with people about some of their issues and then I can tell them I am so thankful that I have God in my life to help me through difficult situations and also to bring me a peace that the world cannot ever give.
So another great service - with lots to take in - and it finished with Communion. Peter quoted from a very old hymn, one line of which for me summed up what he was speaking about “There’s a work for Jesus none but you can do”! Mind you, I will be taking issue with him, because he did say when he quoted it “If you are really ancient, you might remember it” but he did also add “Like me!” so I realise he wasn’t getting at me!!
Hope you all have a great week - stay as cool as you can and be blessed. M xx
