Trumpet Petals

The sensual softness of trumpet petals;
the brightness and simplicity —
nature’s yearning for color,
most vividly alive.

Its long slender stamen,
a lighthouse for nectar-seeking birds —
red, white, and yellow,
a China rose,

Hawaiian and tropical,
a gentle garden mallow
blooming in the heart’s eye —
It flowers then fades.

But while she blooms,
she is the wonder of creation
within a stolen moment,
love must be admired
wherever it is found.
