Remnants by the River

Out foraging elderberries by the river today - it seems far to early for that already! This part of the river is usually where my short mid week run's take me before I need to turn around to get the right mileage. Its obviously being a strategic location being a crossing of the river on Icknield way as the numerous WW2 fortifications show. What is harder to spot though is that these ones sit on top of some English Civil War (1640s) earthworks to the right of the shot. A bit further back up the road is also some raised earthworks from the East Angles called the Black Ditches.
