Much jesting and ribbing over lunch in the office as one of my colleagues is apparently trying to sell quails’ eggs as a side hustle. Men are encouraged to buy them for their benefits related to saúde noturna (nocturnal health). Likely quite an effective marketing strategy.

Six months today I will finish my contract and I’m preparing for a lengthy break. I have to do it but it’s an increasingly strange thing to contemplate as travelling all over to work on projects and with diverse sets of people all over the world has been my norm for almost two decades. Many of my experiences have been enriching whilst usually hectic and often baffling. I will miss some of the good relationships and good collaborations I have in this office, as my visits back to Maputo are definitely some of the highlights of my current role.

As I left my hotel in the morning I passed these traditional dancers lined up to greet others arriving for a conference.
