There’s a public holiday in Tanzania today so I hoped to be able to slink off into the shadows and not work much. I ended up going into the office to try and progress on some pending issues. Although my increasing sense of burnout is making it harder than ever to multi-task, I couldn’t afford to lose the time. There is such a disconnect between what people are expected to achieve and the time needed to make it happen, and I expect this is true for countless workplaces and sectors.

Thank goodness at least by late afternoon I could take advantage of the Tanzanian holiday and Friday earlier finishing hours in Mozambique to go for a long walk around town and clock some of the city’s many tenement blocks.
