The first lesson
I was back at the Book Festival today for an event entitled Women, not Witches where human rights lawyer Claire Mitchell and novelist Zoe Venditozzi talked about the killings of nearly 4,000 Scottish women in the 1500s. They are joint authors of How to Kill a Witch: A Guide for the Patriarchy, and were very entertaining. However, the fire alarm went off and we had to evacuate the building but thankfully only for about 15 minutes.
After a tasty Lebanese wrap and an ice cream outside in the courtyard I saw the rest of the exhibition: Words from the Wards that I visited on 9th August. I was struck by this illustration entitled The First Lesson, about the hierarchy among hospital doctors. The artist is Nisah Ahmed and the story behind the illustration (an extra photo) is by Carol Brogan.
