Nidarosdomen in Trondheim
Another back-blip and close to fifty to follow ;-)
As will be the case for all trip days, I had trouble picking the blipfoto from many beautiful, special as well as touristy things.
I think this Sami altar in the Nidaros cathedral in Trondheim is very special and beautiful.
From the sign:
A hundred years ago, the first national Sami assembly was held in the Methodist Church in Trondheim. The South Sámi Elsa Laula Renberg from Vefsn was the initiator. In many ways this marks the start of the struggle for Sami rights in Norway, which led to the establishment of the Sami Parliament in 1989. A separate elected assembly for the Sami in Norway.
In conjunction with the 100th anniversary, this altar was made by the South Sámi artist Folke Fjällström, and consecrated in Nidarosdomen on February 6th 2017. The altar and the decoration of it is made of birch that is oiled and processed after Sami tree traditions and has a Sami ornament as a message bearer and identifying element. The arched shapes are derived from South Sami tradition.
