Morris Dancers in Whitby

Visited Whitby Abbey and enjoyed wandering around the large site with the boys. Lots to see and some great views from the cliffs. It is always interesting visiting historical sites with son number one - as a history graduate he'll always point out any inaccuracies and fill us in on the missing details.

The town was really busy and difficult to walk round with narrow streets and lots of people. As we walked up to the whale bone arch, there were several groups of morris dancers performing. One of the groups danced with blacked faces and feather headdresses - quite disturbing! The ladies group made a great noise with their clogs and bells on their ankles.
