At a Bend in the Road….

….. on the Wild West Coastal Highway a cabbage tree was blowing in the wind. A band of heavy rain was approaching from the west and reached us at Punakaiki. Margaret and I left Kaiata late morning and Ellen and Duncan followed us up the coastal highway to Punakaiki. That settlement is unrecognizable to me. I haven’t been there for many years. We lunched at a cafe and then walked to follow the paths around the area to view the renown Pancake Rocks and amazing rock formations. It rained heavily in true West Coast style. We visited the very impressive Visitor Centre and other businesses. An area well worth a visit. Ellen and Duncan returned to Kaiata whilst Margaret and I drove home to Blenheim via Westport, the Buller Gorges, Murchison, and St Arnaud. A long drive. We are so glad to be back home.
