1920: 19th Amedment ratified thanks to one vote

Quote Of The Day
"I deem it one of the greatest honours of my life that this great event, so stoutly fought for, for so many years, should have occurred during this period of my administration."
(President Woodrow Wilson)

One vote! Clearly giving women the right to vote was still as divisive topic in 1920, even after women had helped out so much during World War One.

When the door of the train opened at Imazu Station on the way home, the powerful smell of burning wafted into the carriage. Lots of hands went up to noses. When I began walking home from Kusugawa Station I looked towards Imazu and could see a huge pall of smoke. By the time I got home to take this photo from our window the smoke had cleared.

I wonder what happened?
