Doune Castle

A meandering sort of trip up from Abington to The Black Isle today. We started with breakfast at the services before heading up through the ‘central belt’. We decided to stop off at Doune castle (not too far from Stirling/Bridge of Allan). We had attempted a trip there before but the entrance is a bitch and that day traffic was a nightmare so we ended up missing out.
Today the entrance was still a bitch but we were prepared :-) and so actually made it to the Castle. Was one of the castles built by one of our clansmen (Stewarts) and is an interesting place to wander round. For most over 50 it is also famous for being in the Monty Python film ‘The Holy Grail’ and for those a bit younger (and us fangirls) it is Castle Leoch from Outlander.
We left Doune and hit an immediate traffic jam caused am assuming by an accident, certainly a road closure. But eventually drive into Taste Perthshire for a late lunch and a VERY purse restrained wander around the shop. Finally landed on the Black Isle at teatime knackered but happy to be in the place where our hearts are for a week of relaxation
