Stanley Mills

Cycled up to Stanley to visit the NTS property of Staney Mills which drew their power from the mighty River Tay which is the largest river in the United Kingdom by measured discharge.

The mills were built in 1786 but this picture shows the circular gatehouse with an ogee* roof and circular chimneys which dates from around 1876.

* An ogee roof is a type of roof design that features a double curve characterised by a concave curve transitioning into a convex curve which creates an S-shaped or serpentine-like profile.
