Indulgence

3 restaurants in one day has to be a new record. We've done 2 a few times before but never 3 as far as I am aware.

First was Tang's for a breakfast of sashimi and sushi. Never been here before but always willing to try out new Japanese places. At first we were a bit disappointed by the narro wselection of sashimi but the quality was very high when it came. Salmon and tuna are 'de rigeur' of course but the sea bass was a first time experience and the flying fish roe was delightful, like fishy space dust exploding in your mouth.

After a beer in Assembly we went to Mother India for some Indian style tapas. Martin at work had recommended Mother India in Glasgow but I discovered they have opened an Edinburgh branch. The lamb and chicken we had must come close to being the softest I've ever had in an Indian and the dishes didn't taste hot in the mouth but I had a bit of a neck sweat by the time we were done. It was a shame this was just afternoon tea as I would have liked to have stayed for a full on meal here.

Over a cider in the Sun in the Pear Tree beer garden (escaping before the jazz started) we had to choose between going to Kushis next door for yet still more Indian or Koi round the corner for yet still more sashimi. In the end Koi won out, partly due to the limited choices at Tang's, and we went for the sashimi platter we normally have and some edamame on the side with a nice warm jar of sake. As a surprise this time the 5 varieties of sahimi had the octopus replaced with surf clam and the squid replaced with cuttlefish. My initial chargrin at not getting octopus was quickly wiped away when I tasted the surf clam. There are similarities n texture but the taste of the surf clam is even nicer than octopus, the cuttlefish was very similar to squid but slightly more crunchy on the palette without being tough or rubbery. The normal salmon, shrimp and tuna were there but the pieces of tuna had to be possibly the biggest juiciest most succulent pieces of tuna sashimi I've had so far, out of this world!

Jen is now asleep for a few hours before we watch The Watchmen later on, with chips and dips of course :)
