My Life With Luna

By chrisA

I picked more Figs and Plums this morning and as I was putting some in boxes for my sister and brother in law this little chap appeared amongst them.    Once disturbed he hopped out and landed on my camera, I put him outside once I'd taken a couple of photos.   There's another in extras.
He's an Oak Bush Cricket, the UK's only native arboreal species. They live exclusively in trees, hedges, parks and gardens, particularly in mature deciduous trees.
Unlike many other Crickets,  males don't 'sing', but
attract females by drumming on leaves with their hind legs.
They are largely carnivores, preying on other small insects and are active both day and night.
Females lay eggs in bark, moss or lichen.  Nymphs can be seen from June and adults appear in July to autumn.   They are common and widespread across much of Southern Britain.
Thanks Google.
