Getting ready

Crappy photo for the record. This is about half of the food we prepared for this evening's repeatedly postponed celebration of 28 years living here. The guest list was revised multiple times too. Our first draft was unmanageably huge, so we cut it down drastically and as always ended up adding some people in. If everyone had turned up, there'd have been 26 of us, but there were a fair few no-shows. Plus some people turned up with (pre-announced) food. There was definitely enough.

Amazingly, after the recent days of blazing heat, the weather abruptly turned (relatively) cool and cloudy, without even the excuse of a storm. It was a bit windy too, so we ended up at the back of the house again, instead of in the square. It was a very pleasant temperature, and then around 10:30, when there was only a hard core of 8 people left, there was a sudden turmoil of wind, and a few drops of rain. So refreshing! And we were under the shade sails, so we didn't get wet.

We soon packed up after this though, and then S and I, exhausted from all the cooking and running around, staggered around sorting stuff out and cramming leftovers into the fridge. We keeled over into bed at midnight. After a few years of mega parties, we vowed to keep it small next year, before the big three-zero. Let's see if we can stick to this!
