National photographer day
Today I’m reflecting on what photography can truly shift.
Not just on the outside — but deep within.
I don’t photograph to beautify.
I photograph to reveal.
To piece something back together.
To help someone see themselves differently — with more gentleness, more truth.
When a woman steps into my studio, she often brings doubt with her.
She tells me she’s not photogenic.
That she hates her body.
She apologises, almost, for being seen.
And then, something shifts.
A breath. A softening.
A light flickers in her eyes.
She sits up straighter.
She takes up space.
She sees herself.
That’s the power of an image.
Not a mask. Not a performance.
But a compassionate mirror.
A trace of who you are, when you give yourself permission to show up fully.
Photography, when done with intention, can be a threshold.
A quiet, sacred moment to reconnect.
To set down the pressure.
And to walk away with a new sense of self.
I don’t just take portraits.
I hold space for transformation.
Gentle. Deep. Lasting.
And if you feel something stirring inside you while reading this…
Maybe it’s time to gift yourself that kind of reflection.
